hi I posted earlier about a force 9.9, I took the advice of one of the people who posted(thanks!) and tryed to start my force by spraying wd40 into the engine which has spark, 110psi compression and fuel.. and. So by using wd40 I isolated the question of whether my fuel system was working or not.. so I guess it must be in the electrical system... now if I have spark it's either a.) too weak, or I suspect b.) the timing is completely off. unfortunately in the "official force" manual it doesn't say anything about adjusting the timing on the ignition system (which is SEM walbro) I know the flywheel should be in some type of position but I don't have any idea. and how can I tell if the spark is strong enough??? (please be specific) thanks a bunch!
scott

Re: questions on 9.9 force (ignition)

Hi Scott,
I'm no expert, but I have an '89 Force 15HP that is probably very similar to yours. The timing isn't really adjustable on these motors. The flywheel only fits on one way using the woodruff key. I thought the timing was off on mine when I spun the flywheel, so I researched it and found that the only adjustment is to set up the advance mechanism so the index dot is aligned with the throttle cam (am I usuing the correct terms here??). After that it SHOULD run well. Since you got nothing with the WD-40 AND have good spark, just for laughs try swapping the spark plug wires, then do the WD-40 thing again. Good luck with it. Isn't boating FUN???? I shoulda' kept the canoe... my arms never left me stranded..... :D
One more thing.... check to make SURE you haven't spun your flywheel. Plugs will still fire, but nowhere near when they're supposed to. You can have fuel, spark, and compression, but the beast'll NEVER start!!!!Been there, done that.....

Scott, you now have the same problem running on three threads and give little evidence that you are paying any attention to the advice you are getting.

Go back to your original post and report the results of the advice you got there, or just stop wasting our time.

JB
