One more..Remove the carbs, take the bowl off,and use some good carb cleaner to clean the inside carb area. Do this before cranking the motor over. Drain fuel line dry.Remove and clean all fuel filters.
Drain contents of fuel tanks, clean them out inside, and fill ONE half-full of 50:1 mix.
The reason for this is, if you have problems getting this engine ready, you won't have to dump and clean them again.
Drain the lower unit, and look for water, and chnks of metal.Refill L/U, using new gaskets, if all looks well.

God luck. I hope she fire right up :)

The reasons you want to change out the impeller is it has been sitting idle for over 1 year. The pump housing is not perfectly round, and the impeller will form a "set". It will soon fly appart. Outboard pump impellers should be considered a normal wear item that should be changed every two seasons anyway. So it is best to change it before it fails, because it will. It may even look perfectly fine, but do replace it.

On your difficulty starting, take a can of WD40 and spray it into each carb. A 2 or 3 second burst each. Crank. If it pops, sputters, or otherwise tries to start, your problem is fuel delivery (carbs, fuel line, stale gas, clogged filters, fuel pump.).

They're anywhere from 20-40 buks. If you have difficulty locating one, try a merc dealer, as they were the last company to carry Chrysler' line under the Force namebrand.

12 Footer can you help me out here... I did some things to the engine like you said.. she treis to fire over.. and won't stay running... I pulled the wires off the distrubutor and they were a little corroded so cleaned the contacts and trimmed new pieces on the wire... I can't pick up a manual on the engine, local shop is closed for a week..Man this Bites.. Woundered if you happen to know what the firing order and what cylinder is which on the engine??
Thinking maybe the wires are backwards?? Sometimes when she tries to fire she backfires.. Otherwise it tries to start but won't run...

Any suggestions would be great...I tried to access your home page or e-mail you but it didn't work...

Thanks

Taztech...if you are talking about a 4cyl Chrysler motor the firing order on mine is: 1-4-2-3. clockwise from face of the cap with #1 right below the adjustment screw for the timing. Hope this helps. Thought101

I am in the process of checking compression on her...What would you say the minumum amount of compreesion per cyl would have to be?
where were you talking about timing adjustment screw..I only found a red line on the cap(maybe nuber one?)...I can send you a pic of what mine looks like..if you need it..

Last night she almost ran, but quit then fired up a couple of times with no luck.. today she's quiet...SHHH!!!

Stumped..

Ok,, Checked compression...wide open throttle ..1=95, 2=60-65(?),3=120,4=120,
shot some oil in 1 brought it to 110..then back down, shot oil in 2 went to 90 then back down.....Just a guess but probably blow by in 1 and 2 ..I work alot on Cars and trucks..Not more enjoyable..First boat engine had to test.. Am I doing it right?? What are your thoughtts?... Now pulled off cap and cleaned ..looks fairly clean.. now when i clip off ends of wires for plugs and coil ..should i leave a little of the wire inside sticking out..or cut flush??? Not sure don't want to have to take it all apart again..

Thanks for help everyone..I'm plugging away at her ...GRRRRRRRRRRRR....
