Re: Force Engines - Why such a bad reputation

Sorry, I couldn't resist giving my humble opinion. We have 1200 + boats at our marina with motors of all makes. All of them require some preventive maintenance. Those customers who allow regular maintenance to be performed rarely have problems. Those who never have maintenance done seem to have problems be it a Force, Mecr, Evinrude/Johnson or Nissan. 2 stroke, 4 stroke, EFI, DFI. Bottom line if you do simple preventitive maintenace you will spend less money at shops like mine. Come to think of it preventive maintenance isn't that big of a deal. :D By the way we don't accept American Express. DH

Bottom Line? Let's just put it in a nutshell. I can rebuild a Force motor 3 times for cost of any one OMC or Mercury equivalent rebuild.
Now, let's consider the fact that the Force cost 1/3rd of what they cost new.
Manufacturer's calculated MTBF (Mean-Time to Failure)between a Force 3-cyl against those guys? Only 120 hours difference.
Do the math.
