Force 50 rough spot

I have a rough spot in my OB acceleration. There is a definite range on RPM's where it jerks pretty bad and then it will pop into higher revs with just a little throttle. It's not bogging.

I recently tore down the carb and pulled the main jet out and it wasn't exactly clear how it went back in. I do not remember this problem before I tore it down.

Also, low end runs fine and 3/4 to full WOT is just fine. If I slam the throttle home, which I don't like to do, it doesn't take long for the RPMs to come up.

It just seems like a rough spot. Any ideas on what it might be?

Does it act like it's popping- out of gear? Or act like a slipping clutch?

Re: Force 50 rough spot

Just re-read your post... It could be timing or a loose advance rod ( too much play).

Re: Force 50 rough spot

This is a 1992 motor so it has no points.

The problem is that there is just a range of RPM that it shudders and does not increase RPM smoothly (it shudders) until I move the throttle forward enough and it kind of "pops" up to a higher RPM where it is smooth.

I inspected the linkage and it appears to be tight. As far as timing is concerned, wouldn't I have problems at other ranges? This is the only problem this motor has. It starts cold or hot immediately.

crack open the mixture adjustment a qaurter turn, Roger. It might solve that. If not,you can allways turn it back. And it's better to burn too rich than too lean.
