I just purchased this unit 2 days ago I have noticed there is no water coming out the telltale peehole. How do I change the water pump on this engine. I tried to lower the case but something is holding it up. Could it be the shift linkage. When I am ready to buttun things up how does the tube thingy go in. Should there be a tie wrap to hold in place. Are there any step by step procedures with pics I could use. If I have bent the shift rod is that easy to replace.

Check some previous posts...This is a commonly asked question and you should find the answers you need. Is your boat a Sport-Craft Fishmaster? Thats what I have. Good luck, Ken

I can't answer your question with confidence. There will be people on here that know your motor well and can help (try asking on a weekday after 5:00). Good luck.

Shift into forward gear.

Loosen jam nut above shift coupler.

Turn the shift rod coupler until the upper and lower shift rods are seperated.

Mark the trim tab posistion with a white grease pencil or white fingernail paint or somethin.

Remove the trim tab retaining screw, then the trim tab.

Remove the 5 screws (2 on each side, and 1 in the trim tab pocket) securing the l/u to the motor leg.

It should drop off with no problems.

Ok I got the lower unit to drop. Which direction does the pump run,I have seen different info saying a merc goes clockwise. So if my Force lower unit has the shaft pointing straight up towards the sky turning the shaft clockwise is correct? Does anyone have the force manual that can confirm this.

Re: 96 force 75hp needs help new thermo/water pump

I just tossed in the impeller does it matter which way it goes in. I installed it with numbers and letters towards the lower water pump housing. Update I have found some parts not in my manual scematic. Mine is the 96 75hp force. The 85-125hp 84-89 shows these parts as the crankshaft spline seal retainer and drive shaft spline seal. Do I just install these above sliding them onto the shaft. What do they do,have I moved the bearings where this part slides into? If anyone knows that answer please help out a new boater.

hey lone wolf you mention the vanes face clockwise? If you put the impeller over the drive shaft and the key, slide down the cover turning the shaft clockwise the impeller vanes tips would be pointing counterclockwise right? This is what I have done so far if its wrone let me no.

no1 install the water pump plate and gasket;slide the water pump impeller down the shaft;place the impeller key into slot align slot in the water pump impeller with the key and slide down in place;lower water pump housing down ;with a clockwise motion of the drive shaft push pump housing over the impeller lubricate and install'o buy the way never ansser my question what was keeping unit from dropping down?

Re: 96 force 75hp needs help new thermo/water pump

I figured out why the lower did not drop the linkage was still attached. I unscrewed the top nut and adjused the long hex nut untill it was apart. Does anyone have a manual for the 96 75hp force motor I purchased the clymer one and I see a mistake. My shaft has a sleeve at the top with a rubber thingy. Am I going to have problems getting the shaft back in? Its a good thing I looked up there before proceeding I can only imagine what could have happened. When I get past installing the shaft I will need help getting the shift linkage adjusted right. So lonewolf you agree that the water pump is in ok? I just replaced the impeller only. Impeller in position lowered the cover turning the shaft clockwise so the vanes would be pointing counterclockwise.
