'73, 85 hp, chrysler, 3 cylinder with distributor type magnapower ignition. Bottom cylinder has very weak spark. Timing has been set, distributor, plugs and plug wires are new, and coil tests good. What would cause this thing to have good fire only on the top two cylinders? Do I have a bad power pack (CD box)?

You say you have a distributor type ignition.
You may have a bad cap, rotor or spark plug
wire.Dont know if you can get cap and rotor
but you could try Fairwinds Marina a:
www.fairwindsmarina.com They do Chrysler/Force
parts.

That's what I thought also. Bad plug wire or cap, so I replaced the distributor, cap, wires, condenser, and points; still same thing. Very weak fire on bottom cylinder. Any other suggestions??

The only thing left is the CD module. A mechanic can test it for you or you may have to replace it.

The CD for the bottom cylinder only fires that one but it has a capacity to fire 2 cylinders like the other one does. So try the other 1/2. Double check your input wiring to the CD.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not sure what you mean sony "try the other 1/2"? Will you please explain.

think Sony is suggesting you switch modules (?). That can be a good way of isolating the problem.

(By the way -- In the way of friendly advice from one of the locals, I would use Fairwinds only as a last resort.)

Your Two CD units have the capacity to fire FOUR plugs. I believe Sony2001 is suggesting to use the half (CD) that is not being used in place of the bad CD. Simply disconnect the wires from the bad CD and reconnect to the CD half not being used.

Re: calling all chrysler experts

KTM's ignition is a distibutor/battery CD....for those unfamiliar with it, one cd module takes power from the battery and drives ONE ignition coil..that delivers the spark through a distributor...the only parts that could give weak spark on only one cylinder are the cap, wire, and spark plug. All else is shared by all cylinders.
