I have a 1970 55 hp Chrysler Mod 554HA with magneto and points ignition. I want to replace the spark plug wires. The wires go right into the coil body. I have been afraid to mess with them for fear of ruining the coils. Has anyone ever changed the wires on this type engine.

You can try unscrewing the wire form the coil body. If that don' work, it's like icwebpeople sez. Ya gotta replace the whole thing.

c/6

Hooty

Thanks for the info on the coil. I went out to Discount Marine in Weedsport, NY last week and talked to Wayne. He says they don't make that coil anymore. I wish he'd get a computer and join this forum.

for what its worth i have 2 diffrent sets of chrysler coils one set is black the other is the smaller blue ones. both can have the plug wires replaced. carefully slide the rubber boot off the coil and the wire will allmost fall out.
