I have been curious about the purpose of a part on my outboard.

It is a screw on top of the head. This is a 1976 55HP Chrysler. I don't know if it is a drain of some sort or what. My manual has a picture of it but no description or identification. I wouldn't think it was a drain because it is on the top but who knows? It is just on the transom side from the thermostat.

Thanks for the info.

Shane

Yes, I would say that's a good description of it. It is not like a regular screw but has thick threads.

Shane

Probably a plug that taps into water jacket for temp probe or water pressure guage.I think that's where Hooty was going.
