just installed water pressure gauge, what should the pressure be?

just rebuilt my force 70 hp. i put a water pressure gauge on it, only 1 or 2 psi at idle and 11 or 12 psi w.o.t. what is the normal pressure? i just recently put a new water pump impeller on it.

it is a 1993. the motor is mounted on the lowest holes. i wanted to raise it up to get the max performance out of it, but i don't know the pressure i need to be running.

The thing to do now is install a new water pump, see what your pressure readings are at idle, mid-range and wfo. Khowing that, you can always tell if the pump is working right and there are no blockages anywhere.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

i just changed the pump impeller not 6 months ago. when you say "a new water pump", you mean the impeller and the housing too?

O-k then, that's almost new. As far as I now, there aren't any factory specs for water pressure so you have to make your own. I have a 200hp 'rude and at idle it has 4-5psi and at mid-range it's 12-14psi. At wfo it's 18psi, so I know any deviation from this, I have a problem. Same with yours. I'll take a water pressure gauge over a high-temp horn any day. Just gotta remember to watch it.<br /><br />g'luck & c/6<br /><br />Hooty

I've got a 95 70 hp Force with a new impeller. Water pressure reads at 3# at idle, 9 or 10 at mid throttle, 13-14 at WOT.<br /><br />I don't know if the guage is even remotely accurate, but I monitor for any change from "normal".
