Only one cylinder is firing?

I have a 45 HP Chrysler motor that has only one cylinder firing. I think I have tracked it to the points but I am not for sure. I know it is not the coil, spark plugs, or the spark plug wires. I have 12 volts getting to both coils and I know it is not the coils that are bad. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

chrysler,

How do you know it's not the coils. Did you try swapping them?

If so, it could be the points (doubtful) or the condensor.

djohns-
yeah, i bought a new coil, thinking that was the problem, and i have swamped both of them and i get the same results. you don't think it could be the points? i just don't know what else it could be. i have volts getting to the coils and i have swamped them and that one cyclinder still doesn't fire. i also checked the wires and the spark plugs. what do you think?

Is yours a battery ignition or magneto or something else?

chrysler,

In that case, you may have voltage to each coil, however your points may not be breaking that current to fire the plug.

It's rare for a set of points to actually fail. The wear themselves out of adjustment, but rarely fail. With that said, one set of points may be grounded.

I bought a brand new set of points and condensers from boatingsolutions.com. They were only 28.95 plus shipping.(Chrysler 55-1970)
