over heat alarm only in reverse?

I have a 1992 70hp force that has 15hrs on total upper rebuild. the pee stream is very good in forward or reverse. I can idle all day forward, but after 15-20 minutes of trolling in reverse the heat alarm will start sounding. does any one have any Ideas.<br /><br />WILLYMAZE

My guess would be that exhaust is disturbing<br /> water intake.

Any chance the prop is cavitating, and the water pump is sucking as many air bubbles as water? Just a thought...

Why do you troll in reverse. I never heard of that.

The exhaust is up about 4-5 inchs from the water. How would I tell if the is air in the pee water I cant really tell by looking? trolling in reverse slows me down to about 2 mph compard to 3.5 in forward. It,s about the right speed for trout or northern fishing.
