Need help to figure out a problem. I have what I think is a 1990 force 50hp outboard model number 507x8 and serial numberc-32.
I think my coil to the top cylinder is bad but can't find anyway to get it tested. There is no spark from the coil to the plug. The plug seems ok getting spark from the bottom coil.Seems easy enough but it acts up backwards. There is no spark when the engine is first started and as the day goes on it starts to work.Instead of running ghood cold and start to miss once the engine is warm.
I would like to make sure this is the problem before I spend the $350 on a new one which seems high anyone no if there is a cheaper way out,or a way to get it tested first to make sure this is the problem. I live on the far west end of the UP of michigan right on top of northern Wisconson. Everyone here says it can't be tested seems odd.
Any help will be a big help to this problem thanks in advance.
Bill

Re: I think a coil

Can you switch the coils and move the bottom coil to the top. If the problem moves to the bottom cylinder then you know its coil/high tension wire related. Also, check all connections to the coil especially the ground.
