THIS BOAT SAT IN STORAGE FOR 1 1/2 YEARS. WHEN I STARTED IT IT RAN PRETTY OK BUT WAS MISSING JUST A BIT. I REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS AND THE ENGINE ACTUALLY RAN WORSE! I USED THE RECOMMENDED PLUGS L76V. COULD A BAD PLUG WIRE CAUSE THE PROBLEM? ALSO THE TOP OR #1 PLUG IS BLACK WHEN I PULL IT OUT #2 SLIGHTLY AND #3/#4 ARE JUST FINE. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE ASAP. WERE GOING CAMPING WHICH INCLUDED BOATING UNTIL NOW? FOR ALL THOSE WHO DISLIKE FORCE MOTORS I HAVE ONLY HAD MINE FOR 5 YEARS BUT IT HAS BEEN GREAT!! THIS IS THE FIRST PROBLEM I HAVE ENCOUNTERED. :(

Have you ever decarbonized your motor with a product like Mercury Engine Tune?

I recently was experiencing some of the same issues as you, and the manual said to check compression before doing anything. I didn't follow that advice until 3 hours later. Turns out the reason my #3 cylinder was missing on idle, was due to a large CHUNK out of the side. Purchase a compression gage at any auto parts store, it only takes a few minutes to save tons of time in troubleshooting. If compression is good, you should go with something like Sea Foam or Merc CLeaner...spary throughly and then run the heck out of it to clean it out.

Thank you both for the quick replies! I will try both ways and let you know how it turned out.
