Since I have posted on this site I have solved many problems, new gasket , diaphram etcc. I also learned how to pull out on my controler to acheive a fast idle and finaly get my motor started and running great, I also just did a decarb and plugs. My problem now is after I start the engine in fast idle mode and let it warm up I then take it out of that mode back to nuteral and it dies 805 of the time. After the de-carb it is worse. The boat ran great all the way to 45 mph smooth, just can not seem to get her to run befor I put her in gear, in fast idel she will runj all day long........

There isn't much left but to rebuild the carbs.

Hi U
Removing and cleaning the carb/s is probably a good idea especially if it hasn't been done for a while. a lot of the time this dying problem is cause by mal adjusted control cables or link&sink out of adjustment. Could be just an idle speed stop adjustment?? FYI pumping the throtle lever on an outboard when tring to start it (like you might do with an older car) does absolutely nothing. Pump the primer bulb, set the choke(push key, button, lever, etc) set throtle lever/control to start position and crank. Crank 3-4 times, wait2-3 secs, repete. When shifting an outboard, do not slowly ease the lever into gear, Quickly pop it in. This is a deliberate motion. On the other hand no need to slam or jam, just pop. Some units are equipt with switches that momentarly interupt ignition during the shift change (one reason for the quick little pop). The main reason is to reduce wear to the cogs on the shift dog.

Took a stab at some more repairs this mornibg on the lake, told my office that I was waiting for a plummer :D . Agjusted both my idle mixture screws. Clmers says 1 1/4 turns from seated, well mine were 7 and 6 turns for top and bottom carbs. I now have them set for 2 1/4 still smokes alot but does not stall and ran her to 40 mph, not sure of the rev's have orderd a tiny tach. Boat is a 1989 19 capri with a 1989 force 125 and a slightly dinged up prop, not sure of the size but I know it is stock. How does the speed sound? It does not smoke at WOT but at idle it does bad. Boat had 1/2 tank and kust me but I am still getting the hand at trimming her out. To think all this started since I had no clue and how to start the boat with a fast idle. Now it has just been de-carbed, new fuel pump gasket, diaphram, few screws and autolite plugs.

top speed out of mine is 46mph with the trim up about 15% or so at 5100RPMS.

Sounds like you are getting a handle on it.
I would think 40 mph is pretty good for that setup.

You can probably leave the carb rebuild for the off season, but still sounds like it should be done.

Good Job.

All seems well, the only problem I have now seems to be a stumble at WOT, I just power back then go back to WOT. Also seems to be a little slower since I adjusted the idle screws, anybody have any thoughts on what this could be?
