Getting a hesitation at WOT somtimes, power down goes away. Idles and now starts fine, have just done a de-carb. Original problem was hard starting and low idle fixed those problems with learning how to use the fast idle lever and installing new diaphram and fuel pump gasket and tightening and replacing a missing screw from the fuel pump housing, the boat would not start or idle very well but ran great at wot to 40mph. Now after having replaced those items and setting my idel mixture screws they were both out 8 turns from a seated position the engine has developed a hesitation at wot and slowed down a little, the hesitation only lasts for a few seconds the I power down and all is ok the idle screes are now 2-3 turns out and it does not stall going in and out of gear. The fuel in the boat is about 1 month old and the compression was ok when it was checked 3 months ago. Someone told me to now adjust the high speed idle screw, but I do not belive I have one. Any help would be appreciated.

When I figure it out I will let you know
May try to go a little richer on my carb setting. The original setting from the previous owner was 7 to 8 turns from seated, it had idle trouble but great top end no lag. Now with all the changes and 2 to 3 turns out great idle no stall, but wot has a bogg or miss sometimes. Be patient we will get some answers from some very knowledgable people on this board.

I'm surprised at idle screw setting. Should be from 1/2 to 1 1/2 turns out. Try a decarb in the gas tank. You probably have a lot of carbon. Could spray some decarbonizer thru spark plug hole and let it sit overnight.

Re: Question for 12'er 1989 force 125

OK follow up, installed my tiny tach and a remote temp sensor, idle 850 900, WOT 4500, but still working on trimming her out somemore, speed full tank cooler 4 people 37mph, 2 people 42mph. WOT bog seems to be gone and no more stalling, does sneeze on re start once in awhile. Prop pretty banged up some shutter, and seems not to spin up that quick. Final idle screw settings 3 out and 2 out frim seated. Also new plugs NGK, 91 octane, and switched from Valvoline to pensoil at 50-1 less smoke. Any advice on this boat would be appreciated, speed? rpm? slow spin up? sneeze? are we done fishing yet ?

U68423,
I'm having what appears to be the same issue. If I go to WOT it almost seems like it's flooding and takes a while to build momentum. Top speed for me is a whopping 30mph on my Garmin 72 GPS :(

I had the compression checked and it appears to be fine.

After you have check every thing else. Check the float needle in the carb, some have all metal needle, some have rubber tipped needle. The all metal needle has the rubber seal in the brass seat, when the rubber seal gets old and wrinkled, it will not flow enough fuel. this needle/seat can be replaced with new style, Dealer should have correct replacement. To remove the old brass seat, you screw a sheet metal screw into the brass seat and pull the seat out. I would insure I had the correct new style seat to install, before I removed the old seat.

Simple test for you guys, though one of you is no longer getting a hesitation I understand. When you're getting this hesitation, does pumping the fuel line help? If so, you know its a fuel supply problem, and check the basics: filter, pump, lines, carbs, etc. If it doesn't help, it could still be something in the fuel system, but something electrical becomes more likely.

If you could do a static balance on the prop by REMOVING metal, then it might make those nicks less visible. Also with WOT at 4500 any increase of rpm would be better for when underload. You would win all around.

Re: Question for 12'er 1989 force 125

I think I am going to add a Hustler prop. My prop is the stock one I think, I can not find any numbers on it at all. It is very beat up on all the blades. Does anyone think this could be a cause for vibration or lack of RPM ? I seem to top out at 4500 and 40 mph also the hole shoot is like watching paint dry ;) All responses are appreciated

P.S 1989 Capri 19'. De-carb, new fuel pump gasket, diaphram, NGK plugs.

Another question since I have found my fast idle feature I can now start this pig very easy, but is it normal to be able to go forward when it is engaged, sounds weird but it almost seemed like it was in gear once

No it is not normal to go forward when you have it set in fast idle. The max rpm for your motor is 5000rpm's. You can increase your hole shot by changing the pitch of your prop. Just remember if change pitch you will decrease your top speed.

U68423,
Sorry to get into your thread (but it puts it back at the top). couple of quick questions since you've replaced recently:

1) What #'s of NGK plug did you get?
2) Where did you get the diaphram from?
3) What kind of fuel/water separator are you running and where did you get it from?

Thanks,
Tim

Tim the plugs are NGK BUHX , I purchased the gasket and diaphram for the fuel pump from Doller Offshore parts were $7 dollars overnight fee $35  I do not have a water seperator. I also bought a tiny tach and it works well, all outboards I think need a tach..
