Just acquired this engine. Started fine but no water pumping-shut down right away. Bad impeller or ? Best source for impeller if needed? Thanks. 1966-67 Model 9601 Ser 3125

Larry, try boatingsolutions.com or NAPA. They list one for a 9.9 hp and they show a pic of it. If you got NAPA in your town, ask to see the marine catalog.

MORE-tore unit down-found a small bit of debris clogging water pump exit. Pumping water now but question is how much should it put out. If I put my hand in front of exhaust, water drips off of my hand. Its not a steady stream like I see on some outboards. What would be normal for this engine?

Larry, when you tore unit down, did you check water pump assy? Just wondering what impeller looks like. Sounds like water tube is connected or you would get zero water. IMHO, that would be place to start.

Impeller looked fine. All 12 fingers were there, they were flexible. Had some wear on them (very small nicks, etc. but what I would call good shape. Should I pull the tower and/or blow compressed air through the tube?

Since you found debris in exhaust area , I'm wondering if the water tube-water jacket has debris in it. I wonder if there is away to reverse flush the system.

Pulled tube out and that was clear, so I pulled the power head off and found 3 pieces of old impeller wedged in the inlet to the engine. Put back together and now I have water. Unfortunately will have to pull apart again as now I find the lower seals are leaking.

Re: Chrysler 9.2 water pump

Sorry to hear about the lower seals. Do you mean the ones in the LU or the powerhead itself? If it's the LU, it's a cheap fix. Also, think about taking off the motor leg. Seeing you've gone this far, it's not too hard to do. I attached the motor leg to the LU and reinstalled them both as a unit on my 55. Was fairly easy to do. Did it by myself. That way you'll have a positive indication that the water tube is correctly installed.
