I tried to drain the l/u today but discovered that I don't seem to have the magic tool to remove what looks like the allen style nut (to use allen wrench) from the l/u.... 3/16 is too big- 5/32 too small...so I thought no sweat must be metric....4.5 mm is too big...4mm is too small..aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!..whats up?...whats the trick.....to compound things I got pi--ed off and I think I striped the darn thing....now what?

Thanks in advance

Oh yah...its a 1989 Force 85 hp

Tim

Now my friend...you drill it out. Then tap it out larger and put a normal fill screw in.

If you are handy you can do this yourself...or let a machine shop do it.

TMD

A few of the Force engines came out with allen head screw to remove the oil directly under the bullet near the front. After this failed miserably...they moved to the same hole with a slotted screw.

Later this was discontinued...and the hole was moved to the normal spot with the normal screw.

TMD

Well I managed to get it out....I used a Lisle brand hardened extractor and an impact driver. What a crappy design (the drain)! OK enuf bee-yatching....the oil that came out looked pretty good but had a little cream on it...not frothy..it looked like a spritz of whipped cream on top of green coffee (the oil is green...is that right!?)....should I worry, or just refill and replace the drain plug?

If it was milky...there is a seal leaking somewhere.

Seals and seal kits are still available for the engine.

Green gear oil is High Perf Mercury oil...and should be used again. <---new stuff though. :)

TMD
