Thanks Roscoe,
We have always tried to help in anyway we can... Even though some folks want to put down the Chryslers ( thats ok everyone has a opinion ) The whole idea of our group is to help those with Chrysler products enjoy their time more, and if you have a Merc or a Johnson too, thats fine with us.. We won't run you down like some folks will.. Everyone is welcome, we just love boating!!!! :D

Well allrighty then! It's nice to meet the site founder of the ChryslerCrew's site.
I'm a Chrysler fan. As often as the brand and it's derivatives have been maligned, it says something to see so many on the transoms of weekenders thruought the country. The fact that I drive a dodge tow vewhicle has nothing to do with it.
Just as Mopar did with NASCAR, they need to bring the brand back.
Dave, you may also be interested in how I got my handle, "12Footer".
I picked 12Footer for my name here, from my oldest possesion. It is only one year newer than I am.
This pic of of a 1953 Lonestar "Sportser", 12foot aluminum boat.
*It has been in the family since it was made---just like me.
*It was stolen, sunk, beaten--- Just like me.
*It was recovered and lovingly restored by someone who cared---Just like me.

Other boats may come and go, but this one will go only when I do.
I enjoyed your site a lot too.

I have a 4.4 and a 5 HP mid 70'ies outboards, both under restoration. I think the design of this little motor was decades ahead of a lot others.

I saw the boats on your site - awesome !!!. I didnt know Chrysler was that early selling packages with boats, motors and trailers. Ahead too - what Bayliner started again much later.

BTW

As a curiousity, both the 4.4 and 5 HP are similar to the 6 HP model in the 1974 Catalogue. Is this because they are european ??

LubeDude:

We would probably save our bucks for a newer Chrysler outboard such as the one that appeared in:

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=33;t=002906

Did you notice the distributorless ignition? Ignition coils for each cylinder? The clean design? Well that was all available circa 1983 not the XXI century!

I myself have a 1969 Chrysler 20 HP in a Boston Whaler Sport 11'!

Dave, Good luck with the organization of the event an I look forward for your postings in your web site!

It was nice to see the pics. of those old Chrysler outboards and boats.

Looks like the folks that own them are very proud of them. They sure have done a nice job on restoration/preservation.

The only problem with the Chrysler line of marine products was that they (Marine) were not part of Chryslers core business. That did not make any problems for the engines, it just made the support and commitment from corporate somewhat lacking when the auto industry downturned.

As automobiles became more complicated, auto makers had to focus more on the core businesses to stay alive and meet regulations.

Unfortunately for us, that meant the demise of some good products.

Still plenty of those old Chryslers running down here in Melbourne Australia.Saw a 1980 55HP just yesterday.
Reckon they were a nice product in their time.
Why didn't Merc put out great brochures like those ? Must have had a good marketing team.

Re: Any Chrysler Fans out there?

Chrysler Marine's problems wasn't with support from what we have seen. The real reason Chrysler sold off the marine divisions was Iacocca made a deal with the US government for the gov.loans ( remember that? ) and part of the solution to pay back the loan and save the Corp. was to sell off the divisions that were making money, So the Marine divisions, were put up for sale, as was the Tank plant, and anything else that had a value. It took till late 83 for Chrysler to sell off the Outboard division to US Marine and it was official in Jan 84. As far as could they return to the marine business, I have to believe there was some kind of time limit in their sale agreements but who knows what that would be.. Unlike the NASCAR deal where they just decided to Not participate, there must have been legal agreements which might keep them from returning to the market.

Re: Any Chrysler Fans out there?

Just thought I'd tell you die hard Chrysler guys, there is a Chrysler boat on E-bay right now that is being "thrown in" with a 135hp Chrysler motor that looks almost new! Sorry for straying from the forum topic but the boat looks great(aside from a crack in the windshield). Don't know if this is ok, but the E-bay number is:    2474831267
