Get separate receipts and titles for the boat and trailer.
Contact Canadian Customs for latest info on what you need.
Be prepared to pay pst/gst.

Believe you will have to get trailer inspected before you can get it registered in CA.

Here is the info posted by another Canadian a few months ago:

- You need a bill of sale for the boat and the trailer seperatly (if a package deal)

- You also need titles for both

- You pay a flat rate of $182 CAN for something to do with the trailer (can't remember)

- You pay PST & GST on the boat cost

- You pay PST only on the trailer

- There is NO DUTY at all to be paid on either.

Enjoy the new boat.

This was posted by another member:

You don't pay duty (thanks to the free trade agreement) if the unit is made in North America. At the border you will be required to pay PST and GST on the boat and GST on the trailer if there is one (that's all converted to Canadian funds for the calculation). The PST on the trailer will be paid when you register it in your own province. There's also a non-refundable $185 federal fee for Canada Customs to make sure your trailer is allowed in the country... like some cars aren't allowed in. Call your local Customs office and get a list of the paperwork you need and write it down. If you're missing anything it'll ruin your day! When I called Canada Customs they were very helpful and explained everything in detail.

You will also need to have the trailer inspected buy a lic. gov.shop. Most Canadian Tire stores qualify. The duty is only not applied on U.S. and Canadian made boats.

Jim

Is there any duty on the motor (in a package boat deal), if it is made somewhere other than the U.S. Is the Yamaha 150 made in U.S. or Japan?

No more riv inspection on trailors...thats over. if you can cross a border crossing from another province you can save pst. we do that all the time out west. We reside in manitoba & if we cross a Saskatchewan bordr crossing we don,t pay pst. get a separate bill for boat/trailor. No duty on the yammie motor. We have imported a lot of boats!!!

"Anyone know the deal on bring a boat from Pennsylvania to Ontario"

Look at www.riv.ca

You'll need the title to the BOAT and a separate title for the TRAILER and two separate Bills of Sale from the owner. (NOTE: some states don't title boats, then its a hassle). Also a "recall Letter" from the trailer manufacturer

Also, have a look at this website..Lots of info there

http://boating.ncf.ca/buy-usa.html#mar08d

I picked up a geat deal on a Pontoon boat in Florida last June and got it hauled home to BC..

"No more riv inspection on trailors...thats over."

When did it become "Over" ? I brought mine across last month and had to pay the Fee at the border and have it inspected at CDN Tire, even though it had the DUAL US and Canadian specs stickers on it. They also needed to see the recall letter from the Trailer manufacturer.

Just imported a 20' Haulmark enclosed trailor from ND to manitoba. The canadian border crossing guard told us no more riv on trailors & waved us thru after paying gst. Went to the insurance agent & registered the trailor & got the same story. Registered the us trailor with no riv.

I guess I have the distinction of being the Last Guy in Canada to pay the
$ 205 RIV Fee for a trailer...bah ! I'd guess they changed the rule as of Sep 1st.
