Choppy Water Fun?

Ok the wife was in a panic about the high winds and choppy waters out on the lake. Ok I admit the water was a bit rough with the wind blowing at 25mph with higher gust. Seems that every weekend has been that way so far this year. I like the large part of the lake and the ocean feel of the waves and spray over the sides of the bow. She thinks the waves will sink us and/or the wind will blow us over and my 40 something years of experience on the water doesn't calm her nerves. I been on this lake since I was a kid. The worry wart is taking the fun out of my boating pleasure.
Anyway 18 ft i/o open bow fiberglass can take the heat imo lol

Man, tough deal. Let's assume you want her to keep boating with you . . . I'd try a downwind high speed run. It's quieter, softer and the spray won't be as bad, this might get her into the spirit. Probably not, but at least you'll have one good run in the interest of "improving our relationship, Dear" :D

Funny stuff! LOL Yes she must come with me or me go to "arts and Craps" shows like we did in the winter-- yuck!!! She loves the boat and love to stop for swimming. When its windy she wants to stay in the kiddie pool part of the lake haha. I want to be out there pretending I am Captain Hook looking for the long lost Bikini Island :) I told her I don't care if it is windy next time(as long as its not chilly) we are staying out there! Now keep in mind this is when we just hit the big water and its rough. So the only way we can go is forward because we don't make it that far before she gives me the look that can kill and blah blah blah that makes you want to jump ship or "do what I have to do" haha

Not a bad idea hmmmmmm. I really want a Cig boat that does 100 mph :) She wants to remodel the house and counts every penny thats spent on this boat and dares me to get a bigger one. If yall have read my posting(s) in the repair section you would know that I spend more than pennies--just like everybody else, I tell her.
Yea really, you make a woman mad and they automatically go for the Jugular--NPFY LOL

My mother spent every summer of her 86 year life
on the Saint Lawrence River much of it driving her own boat in all kinds of weather. She never got over her fear of really rough water.
But she loved to boat though mostly for transportation to the island where the cottage is.
When you think of the way you feel about her
"arts and craps" Take that feeling and add discomfort and terror and you will get an idea what a day on the lake with you is like for her.
Make a deal so you can do your captain foolishness by your self some times and do boating stuff she likes other times and never take her where she is uncomfortable.Maybe she won't count the boat pennies so closely.

We went to the "lake" and the winds were blowing and the waves were 4-5 feet and white capping. Me wanted to go she said no! So I went and her and the kids stayed on the dock. I got out a wee bit turned around and came back. Even I could not stand banging the boat that hard!

Morel of story is stay the heck off the lake if the wife states, "your crazy." :)

When I first move to the Fort Worth area, I used to get a kick out of wind warnings. I had moved here from Abilene, when the wind slowed to 20 mph, everyone went to the lake. In this area, they put out wind warnings at 20 and everyone heads for shore. :)

I sympathize with you DayCruiser. Before my son was born, my wife wasnt too bad on a boat. Now, anything over 25 even on a calm day brings a tirade. It is terrible to admit, but Im trying to figure a way to take my son and leave the wife.

Bigger boat and 20 degree deadrise definitely helps . . . ;) Bought the boat in my Avatar for precisely this reason. Big lakes, big basins and the wife. If I could've got her through the transition from 15 MPH to 40 MPH I might have been OK (not a chance). Bigger with more deadrise and she really doesn't say anything. I have had it where I was literally jumping from crest to crest and she was nervous, but kept it together.

Thats a nice boat QC! Yea, maybe I will trim the boat so she can't see/feel anything of the waves lol
Is it foolish to go out on the lake with 25 mph winds in a 18 footer? I could maybe see that with a smaller boat. Will the pounding waves sink a boat? I see other "fools" out there lol
I have been to every arts and craps show from here to china haha and tried my best to be flexible
I am so use to her being the first mate it would be hard for me go it alone. This has just become an issue because usually March is the only dominant windy month. Maybe part of April. But this year is different-All of April and May has been windy. We had 40 mph winds yesterday. I don't know what is going on with this crazy weather. Its been chilly too and that unheard of around here in May
