Took my boat, the kid, my best friend, his wife and kids boating / camping this weekend. Had a great time on the water Saturday until lunch. Wind was blowing 15-20 (inland lake) and it was a little choppy.

Took another friend's daughter and her friend (they were camping that weekend too) out on the water, they played around swimming for a while. Picked up other friend and dropped first off (they're larger 20ish girls, too much weight for all 3 of them).

Second round with them was ROUGH. Much rougher than the previous trips out. 1-2 foot waves CLOSE together, taller with wakes. If I went too fast we got beat up, too slow (read, not on plane) and we were taking water over the bow (bow rider, 16'). Park ranger said they'd had a boat swamp, and several sailboats capsize.

Decided to go in, called to my friend on the phone and asked him to bring trailer over (took it off water, to drain it out and give me a rest). Park ranger was standing there, supervising. I got the boat all the way pulled out, and to make a long story short - I'm not allowed back on the water until I fix a few things (like the registration). Even though it's a current number, it's not MY number, nor is it the correct state. He flunked my throwable PFD (it works just fine, just has a very small rip in the vinyl), said my fire extinguisher was crap (it worked just fine when I showed him it was ok .. now it IS crap and I'll finish it up by showing the boy how to use it properly!).

He found no other fault with the boat, or anything (except that "It looks like this boat is a work in progress. Kind of ugly.")

It was MORE windy and more choppy rest of the weekend, so we packed up today and came home (twisted my ankle in the campsite .. totally diff story though!).

Good weekend, nonetheless. Got to go on the maiden camping trip with the new popup trailer
