Fuel Pump Question

I have a 87 85hp Force with a stage 2 fuel pump.. I bought a rebuild kit for the fuel pump & installed it. I ran the fuel pump test acording to the manual, removed the fuel hose where it enters the carb. I pumped the primer & it worked fine.. Then I cranked on the motor for about 3-5 sec twice & got no gas at all.. Am I running this test properly? Also there is antoher hose that runs into the fuel pump that blows air when you crank the motor, does this supply the vacume?

Re: Fuel Pump Question

The other line prvides vacuum off the compression of the motor. So are you saying you have the hose disconnected going to carb and fuel wont flow while cranking?

Re: Fuel Pump Question

the fuel line coming out of the fuel pump going to the carp is disconected where it enters the 1st carb.
is this the proper place to disconect for the test?

The other hose has no clamp so maybe it's not getting full vacume?? I'll replace the other fuel line (vacume line) & put some clamps on it, after this should I be seeing fuel pump into a jar if everything is running correctly?? do I need to crank on it for a bit or should it be instant??

Re: Fuel Pump Question

I have never heard of this test. Then again I have a chrysler. Why not just hook it up and fire the motor up? If it is working it will start the motor. My thinking is that at idle you only have about 1 psi of fuel pressure. There is no back pressure from the carb when the hose is disconnected. When you are cranking motor you are no where near idle speed so your 1 psi is much less.

Re: Fuel Pump Question

bought the new fuel line, ran the test I described above & wa la, I have fuel pumping now. So at least on my motor it was a good test to run, hope this might help anyone else out there who's trying to troubleshoot there fuel pump
