On a 95 90HP Sea Rayder Serial # E 101689 with bullet type connectors, Cyl #1 will quit, dropping speed from about 36 to 24. #1 will remain dead for 5, 10 or some more minutes then start firing again. When at 24 speed, we can remove plug #1 wire and speed maintained. #1 & #2 plugs, wires, coils have been interchanged and problem remains #1 cyl. We suspect switchbox or trigger but neither Clymer nor postings tell us how to narrow problem to either trigger or to switchbox. Clymer states one high speed charge coil charges cap in switch box so that must be working since #2 and #3 firing OK. Clymer also says there are three trigger coils so the trigger coil for #1 may have occasional problems. But it appears the switch box also has to deliver the high voltage to the correct coil/plug combination at the correct point in the firing cycle so it also could be the problem for cyl #1. Compression about equal in all cylinders. Fuel system rebuilt with no improvement. Are there tests to decide between trigger and switch box? Suggestions most appreciated.
