I have a 1989 force 125 and have jumped into the lower unit with both hands for the first time, mistake on my part, anyways how do you remove the oil seal from the outer bearing carrier? The manual says to pry out with a screwdriver, didn't work! any suggestions? Also, when re-assembling the lower unit it says to pack the lip of the oil seal with mult-purpose water resistant lubricant. This may be a dumb question but does that mean the marine grease that is used on everything else?

That bearing cage seal is a bear to get out. I usually put a screw driver in one end and try and hook the lip and then give it a whack. The water resistant lube would be lower unit oil.

Are going in from the other end with the screwdriver and how hard do you have to wack it? I tried it that way but was afraid to hit it to hard and tear something up.

Another seal that I'm having problems with is in the top of the water pump cover. How do you remove it? It has cracks all around the top of it and also needs to be replaced.

The water pump on a force and a chrysler is different. I cant help you there. I can say that seal in the bearing cage had me going for three days. At one point I was sure the seal was molded into the carrier. I tried heat, screw drivers, pliers and harsh language. I think it was a combination of plyers and harsh language that finally worked. As I recall the pliers that worked was a standard combination pliers (about 8 inches long with two positions) did the trick
