Timing tool???

Please help me find the timing tool I need for a Chrysler 1970 45 horse electric start- two cylinder. It consists of a screw in sleeve that you screw into the cylinder head. It also has a rod that is marked from 28 to 32 degrees before TDC. I have searched all over and I need this tool to start tune up. I have no where else to start unless someone can tell me another method to set timing. There is no timing mark to use a light. The model number is 457-HA. They have HA to HH (1970 to 1978) Am I correct in guessing the correlating year? Any input will be helpful. Thanx Phil

I got this in an email from a fellow iboater.<br /><br />"Without the timing tool mentioned in the service <br />manual, you can use a dial <br />indicator timing tool set at .280"<br /><br />My guess is the motor is either 1970 or 1971.<br /><br />Hope this helps. What problems are you having with the motor.

there is also a way to do it with a screw driver and a cloth measuring tape. If you have a selco manual it explains how to do it

I also think doing the timing as per the Seloc manual is the way to go. I doubt very much that you will find the correct timing tool. In the appendix of the book, it says to set timing at 28 deg BTDC instead of 32. Makes sense to me with today's gas.

Thanks guys, I think I'm close. Although while in the process I found a blown head gasket. First things first. Phil
