i have a 88 125 horse force serial number 1251x8c

what type of prop (there are 2 choices, im not sure about the mounting differences)do i need to buy as a replacement. I have a repair manual but it is very generic and doesnt tell me what type of prop i have...

also, few little questions, does this motor have crankcase oil? and where in the heck do i check the lower unit gear oil level, thanks guys

also how easy is it to hook up a tach ( i dont have one) and i hear about have a 20 pole will not let normall tachs work on it...so if someone could point me where to get a tach for this motor would be great

What you need is a better manual. I suggest the Clymers manual for your motor.

Props vary depending on the size and type of boat the motor is on. You will have to remove the prop and look for any identifying numbers on it to determine diamerter and pitch.

You do not have crankcase oil. Your motor is a 2 cycle motor. Which means you have to mix oil into the gasoline. Mix 2.6 ounces of TC-W3 oil into every gallon of gas. Or 16 ounces of oil into 6 gallons of gas.

Lower gear oil is checked by unscrewing the drain and vent screws on the side of the lower unit. The drain is just below the center line of the prop, and the vent is about 8 inches above it.

DO NOT under any circumstances remove the shift pivot screw, which is located directly inline with the prop, near the front of the lower unit.

You can use a tinytach from www.tinytach.com
Hooks up to motor by wrapping a wire around the sparkplug wire.
Call them to make sure you order the right one.

Good Luck and happy boating.

i do have the clymer manual...however it is for all force motors from 5-150hp and doesnt have detail as to which prop i might have.

Thats crazy theres no crankcase oil...i know 2 stroke quads and things like that and they all have crankcase oil...thats wierd to me.

And about the tach, i would prefer to have one that hooks up to the wire that is designed for the tach already the boat.

On all 2 stroke O/B engines there is no crankcase with oil. The air/fuel/oil mix is sucked in and burns/lubricates and engine. Thats why you don't use starting fliuld to start one. It is not crazy, the bearning were designed this way.
About the Tach try Fariahere in iBoats. :) Use the 7000 rpm universal tach.
As to a prop I believe it is a 13.5" x 19 pitch.
However I suggest you contact a prop shop they can fix you up.

Let me show you a Huslter prop on my 85 Force

This is the force hub, a new thrust washer needed to make it work, and an OMC houseing to fit.

Thanks to Phils' Prop shop for fixing my prop issues.

Like I said, no manual is going to tell yhou what prop you have on a motor, as the prop varies from boat to boat. You may have a 125hp motor on a 600# 16' hull, or on a 1600# 20' hull. The prop will not be the same on these two boats. It will also vary depending on the conditions and use of the boat.

There is no way anyone can make a guess as to what you have with the info given.

2 stroke quads? I'd bet that oil is for the trans, as it is on a 2 stroke motorcycle.

There are a few props available from Quicksilver for the Force as well. Not same price as Hustler, though. :(

As 2-strokes flush the crancase with it's "fuel/oil and air" mix, any oil put in there would be removed in no time once the thing runs.

Must be something else you've seen - like Roscoe pionts out.
