Battery Sellector Switch

What type battery sellector switch would I use with my 1990 Force 150. I'm going to install a second battery.

Invest the extra money and get one with alternator protection built into it. One false move with the more basic models can cost you a voltage regulator or two.

How does the alternator protection work?

How does the alternator protection work? I know with these switches your not suppose to switch to the off position with the motor running but can you switch from 1 to both or to 2 while the motor is running? Thanks Bill Mc
