I am trying to remove the pinion gear in order to remove the forward gear. Looking at the gear, it looks as though a nut is hoding the pinion gear on. Would removing this nut allow driveshaft to be removed? The manual is really poor for the mercury force units.
thanks

Hi jeepers
You are correct, just remove the pinion nut. This nut is installed with thread locker (loctite) and 50 ft. lbs. torque. Which manual are you using?

I bought the SELOC. It was the only one I could find. It dosen't anything much on the later engines. (ie...Mercury ones) I probably would have been much better off buying the Mercury one for this engine....and thanks for the info. I have rebuilt car engines, my first experience in boat engines...can't believe the cost of things.
