hi there I have just bought a maxum 1700 (1991) with a 120 force (1990)on her. I am a little disappointed that she will only just manage 37 miles per hour on my GPS. She has a slight misfire once I replaced the old spark plugs for some new ones. The little alloy silver thing above the prop is missing and leaving a huge cavity is this correct where can I get one from. Also the prop that was on the boat has no space for exhaust to come out. What should the prop look like what size etc. I am ok on engines but know nothing about a 2 stroke, I have ordered a service manual. any ideas to my problems and would the exhaust make such a difference
thanks guys ps any good places to explore on the web
:D

Your motor might or might not have three way exhaust: First, the idle exhaust relief at the top of the leg where water and smoke come first, underwater exhaust above the propeller, there you need a snout to direct the exhaust away from the propeller and into the swirl that the propeller makes and also trims the steering a bit, and finally through the propeller.

Your Mercury dealer should still have information on your motor, however, posting the model number and serial number would be of great help for the other Force experts in this forum!

Your model and serial numbers look correct, but they do not appear in my book. Perhaps you have a model that was for export from the US.

Yes, you should have an exhaust snout on your motor, just above the prop. It directs the exhaust away from the blades to prevent the prop from ventilating. You should be able to order one from a Mercury dealer.
