Does this Force 70 have an alternator (or similar) that should recharge our battery? We have new battery on our pontoon but after a few times out for the day it runs down, esp after using the lights. Is this motor problem or ???
-we're new boat owners and don't yet have engine manual.
Thanks for all input.

Yes.
The stator ( wire coils under the flywheel ) produce AC current.
Current is fed to the recitfier/regulator and is converted to DC current, which charges the battery.

Might have a loose wire or bad connection somewhere, or a bad rectifier.

Do you have a tachometer?
Is it still working?
Usually the tack will not work if the rectifier had failed.

The rectifier WILL fail if the battery cables are ever touched to the wrong battery posts ( connected backwards). It only takes a second.

Rectifier is part number 28 in this picture.

click for picture

Easy to replace, but not cheap.

Everything may be working as designed. I suspect your lights draw more current than the charging system supplies. I don't know for sure what the capacity of your charging system is but most likely approximately 10 amps. 10 amps at 12 volts is 120watts. If your lighting is more than 120watts the battery will discharge.
