Hi Guys, I have a 1998 75hp Force and I'm wondering what the small plate affixed across the front of the carby throat does? It would seem to my very limited knowledge to restict airflow. Would removing it be of any advantage!
Cheers
Happy Gilmour :)

Welcome to iboats, Adam :)

It looks like you are describing the choke plate.
It ordinarily has a linkage that goes to a small 1" round can. This can is the electric choke. Press the ignition key in while it is in the on or start positions. A click should be heard, and this plate will close-off the front of the carb, thus choking it.

Hi 12Footer, hope you enjoy my next cinematic release. The small plate I mentioned is screwed firmly to the front of the carby, across the throat. It doesn't move, it just changes the shape of the carb throat from round to a flattened circle a bit like a flat tyre

Yup. Rocoe is right. I had the older carbs in mind, which do have a choke plate.
