Re: 92 FORCE

What model motor do you have? hp?

I would start by pulling the head and examining the head gasket, head, pistons, and rings, looking for damage.

Could it just be a head gasket? Maybe, probably not, you will only know if you look.

If motor requires a total rebuild, it is not worth the time or money.

Better to put the money toward a decent late model used motor.

Re: 92 FORCE

The cost of a total rebuild would be in the 1400 to $2000 range.
Some probably better to part it out on ebay and look for a new or late model used motor.

But check the head/gasket/pistons before deciding what to do.
Might only be a $100-$200 repair.

Re: 92 FORCE

Rcollins, it could be a blown head gasket, so do pull the head and inspect it.
Low compression will cause the symptoms you describe with poor idle, sooth running, and low HP.

Did the motor overheat?

Re: 92 FORCE

Can't you just remove the head without removing the entire powerhead?
Maybe not. Haven't looked at one of those in years.

MY Man. doesn't show or say but says "remove bolts holding the powerhead including the two 12 point fasteners in the front adjacent to the upper cowl shock mounts"
