Chrysler 20 hp outboard model 2001 serial 4203. I need model year and help with shifter. Motor starts and runs good, however, when shifting into F or R, nothing happens. I checked the linkage inside the head, it is working correctly. The shear pin is in properly on the prop. What else to check? Novice mechanic here.

Re: Chrysler 20 hp outboard

Try removing the motor leg covers and see if there is an adjustment nut. The nut is about 1 1/2 inches long and takes a 7/16 wrench. Maybe the locking nut came loose and it vibrated out of adjustment. If that nut is secure and the linkage above and below move when you shift you will have to take the lower unit off and try shifting it from the shift linkage going to to the lower unit. You didnt by chance remove the shift pivot screw on the lower unit by mistake? It is locacted in the round part of the lower unit toward the front of the motor. If so this is the problem. If that bolt was removed the pivot for the shift can not move the clutch forward or backwards.
