I need some help from you force gurus. My outboard ran good then a magnet fell apart which bent the throttle control link.I took it out and put it on the trailer and then home.I then installed a new flywheel and throttle control link and when I tried to start the motor it would crank and every once in a while back fire. The motor ran good untill I stopped it in the water but after installing the new parts it wouldnt. If I installed the flywheel and I did install it correctly I shouldnt need to re time the motor I checked the fuses thier ok I have always worked on cars but to be honest have no idea where the timing adjustment is on this motor even the manual doesent show much what tests should I do thanks guys

Did you replace the flywheel key? If your timing is off it is probably the key is gone and when you put the flyheel back on it puts the motor out of time. This would cause a backfire.

Yes. That is my thought, too, Sam.

One other possibility is that you got the plug wires switched.

Welcome to iboats, and good luck. :)

I did not replace the flywheel key because when I looked at it it seems intact it wasent broken or chiped unless your telling me they need to be replaced. Im also going to check the spark plugs to see if maybe I did switch them the plug leads that are mounted at the top should go to the top plug and the lower to the lower plug do you fellas know and thanks for the response

Is the backfire coming out of the carburator? I would try as JB mentioned first and swap the plug wires. Also verify the flywheel you got is identical to the one that was broken.
