MY FORCE 75HP HAS NO CCOMPRESSION AND THE MECH WANTS 2500 TO REBUILD IT. I WAS WONDERING IF THIS IS SOMETHING I CAN DO MYSELF AND SAVE MONEY?
IS THERE SOME PART (POWERHEAD) THAT I CAN BUY ONLINE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM WITH LITTLE EFFORT FROM ME TO PUT IT IN? OR SHOULD I SCRAP THE MOTOR?

Re: FORCE 75HP NO COMPRESSION

Zero compression, on all three cylinders?

Get it checked again, that is, get a second opinion.
If compression is bad, buy a manual and remove the head.
No one know how bad the damage is without looking inside.
You might get lucky and find it only needs a head gasket.

It the head, pistons, or cylinders show damage, then you will have to decide if it is worth a rebuild.

Re: FORCE 75HP NO COMPRESSION

hello
gave up chysler work years ago :)
however if its a non saltwater model they can be rebuilt by an average tech that will read the manual before and during the process s as to have an understanding of what is going on.the two common causes of piston failure is lack of lubrication from running clogged carbs and overheat. make sure you identify why it failed and fix that part as well.
if your block is repairable and the crank and rods are reusable and the motors is not a saltwater model then you can do a first class rebuilt for about 800 or so in parts and machine work.

Re: FORCE 75HP NO COMPRESSION

cause a saltwater chysler will not come apart.
also over the yearts I learned not to use silly cone sealant as the manual states
it creates to many problems.
in a saltwater motor there tends to be to much corrosion of the cooling system for a reliable rebuild.
if an old saltwater motor has a cast aluminium exhaust divider plate an plate inspection is NOT done odds are you will have a water leak that kills a piston very soon.
the problem is all the small steel fasteners that will all break. that and a lot of the plates are NLA
there is a good thread running on the merc forum about repairing old "junker" motors.

Re: FORCE 75HP NO COMPRESSION

Remove your exhaust cover on the port side of powerhead and you can inspect the condition of the pistons and rings from the side for damage. The gaskets are cheap to replace. Also remove the head and inspect cylinders for scoring. Move the pistons back and forth and see if there is a lot of slap. If any of these things are present a complete rebuild is neccesary because there is probably fragments of metal inside the engine. If the engine was mainly run in salt water, GOOD LUCK PULLING IT APART, unless you have a good set of mechanical tools and torches combined with mechanical knowledge and a lot of patience. If its a fresh water unit it should come apart quite easily depending on how it was maintained. These engines are very easy to work on because the engine is built with chainsaw technology but are good little buggers.

P.S. If you are going to rebuild your powerhead make sure you have your cylinders bored 30 thousanth over. to put standard size pistons back in you will probably get a years use out of your rebuild.

Martin

Re: FORCE 75HP NO COMPRESSION

hello
if you bore it .o3 buy .o3 over pistons :)
I would allow the machine shop to bore itfirst then tell you what size pistons to buy. there are many good suppliers of aftermarket pistons and such for that motor.
what part of the world are you in ?
if I know anyone about there I can try to help. 2500 is about rightfor a v4 but a tad high on a 3cyl butthe labor costs in various regions can eat that up. but then I dont have the estimate and that may include other maint work as well. all my rebuilds start with a teardown of the power head and gearcase. then I estimate from there.
