Re: 50hp force

The motor is 17years old, but they are tried and true. They are a 60's design and it was changed little, except for ignition systems over the years.
They are dirty running motors, requiring frequent decarbing. The fuel pumps are not designed for todays alcohol-enhanced fuels, and it will require a new diaphram (cheap part) about every 200hours or so. The impeller is very easy to get to. The plugs are the "gapless" type, and foul easily.
Cant say much about the boat, but if it is a typical fiberglass hull of 16FT, you'll probably top-out at around 30MPH.
If it's an older, heavier than normal hull, it will be less.
The Force 50HP rating back when it was manufatured, was rated at the powerhead,as opposed to the prop shaft, as today's outboards are. This means it will give simular performance to a modern outboard around 40HP or so.

Re: 50hp force

That would be a lighter hull than a comparable glass hull. Maybee 35MPH.

Force motors get a bad rap for the most part. Just be sure you keep your heat alarm working and replace your water pump impeller every year and you should have no problem getting lots of use out of it.

Re: 50hp force

I have a 16' 8" Spectrum vhull side console with a Force 70hp.
Weighs in at 1600# with 2 adults and gear. Top speed is 30mph.
I can get 33mph if I lighten the load.

Sheaston how do i know if the boat has a dynaplane hull? Also I have never had a V hull I have had glass bassboats, do you actually get up on plane with a 50hp at 30 mph?

thnx
mark

Re: 50hp force

The boat should plane around 15mph, depending on the weight onboard.
You should be able to cruise around at 20mph at appox 2/3 throttle, if everything is working properly.

DO NOT, DO NOT buy this, or any boat, without an onwater test drive.

Re: 50hp force

Nope, never heard of that hull. Probably a name they gave to a new hull shape/design.

Re: 50hp force

One other thing I forgot to mention, don't "hole-shot" this motor (like you're trying to pull a skier up).
The lower units are week, but can generally stand the torque. The problem is with the prop hubs. They spin-out extremely easily. It really depends on how you start-out. My nephew had trouble keeping props intact on the same motor, because he would allways start with a hole-shot....Idle-to-wot in one slam. On the same motor,(bought the boat), I only spun it out once, and that was because I tried to navigate a new sandbar.
So if you apply power gradually, as the hull speeds-up, the prop hub will not slip.

Re: 50hp force

my hull is stamped with dynaplane
after doing some research this design is to lower drag in the water (to put it in basic terms)
