50 HP FORCE WON'T SHUT OFF

I have a 89,50hp,507x9b,serial 3348.I took this all apart and put a new head gasket and head on it.But somehow I wound up with an extra wire(black) and now have to choke it to shut down.I have manuals but aren't sure off how to do it.Any advice would be appreciated.

shoot !<br /><br />be lucky, most people with forces cant get em to START running. just get a real large fuel tank<br /><br />seriously though, that black wire more than likely is needed to ground out the ignition when the key is turned"off"<br /><br />on my omc motor, it connects to the ignition/powerpack and also to the block.

Ha 1 turn 1 start. Trick is to turn key to run position push in and while holding in turn to start position. in 2 seconds when engine catches let key out and to run position. No Issues here.<br /><br />Oh and to really be sure pump up the bulb first.

He's asking how to get it to stop, not start, RG.<br /><br />Good advice on starting, though. <br /><br />Pretty sure your black wire kills the ignition, M Collins, like MO said.<br /><br />Check the wiring diagrams in the manual. My guess is that it goes to a terminal on the key switch.<br /><br />Good luck.

At the top of the terminal strip is a screw that should be labeled "ground" this should be where the black wire goes. Can also be the first screw on the strip which holds the strip to the powerhead.
