"Is it tick over? " Huh? whats that? you guys talk funny. Just kidding, but I don't know what you mean by "tick over".

Its hard to believe we all used to speak the same language.

As for the brass screw, it is the idle mixture screw (needle valve).
Should be turned out 1.25-1.5 turn from lightly seated.

It is number 15 in the photo in this link:

http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show...0.1/8B.png&inbr=1725&bnbr=60&bdesc=CARBURETOR

What is "tick over"?

Ahhh, I understand now.
I'm afraid if I suggested adjusting the tick over, I may get a bop in the nose from some guys. :)

Re: carb setting, wont tick over

LOL. Well, it is not a tick over then. This c arb doesn't have a screw for RPM adjustment really. It has a cable/cam adjustment for RPM.

Welcome to iboats :)
It is a mixture screw. Be carefull not to tighten it, or bottom it out too snugly, as it will ruin it, and possibly the needle seat too.
Start at 2 and one-half turns from bottom.
Adjust underway with a warm engine, at fast idle.
Slowly, one-eighth turn at a time, turn the screw CCW. Allow at least 10 seconds before going another 1/8"....Do this until the motor begins to stumble (this is rich max). Turn the adjustment screw back clockwise, one-QUARTER turn. The carb is now adjusted.
If you have problems with setting a steady speed long enough to adjust it, you have a fuel delivery problem. Clean fuel tank, replace fuel pump diaphram, and rebuild the carb if you need to. There are many Force/Merc experts here, like Roscoe,Eurolarva,qab999 and many others, so post your progress here, or if you have any questions you think they might be able to help you with.
