I am having problems with overheating. I replace my impeller, and gasket. The motor shoots out water at idle speed, but upon increaseing the throttle, the water slows down and then stops. Water appears to be circulating through my engine ok. I check the thermostate and it appears to be working just fine. Also what is the purpose of the thermostate on a outboard motor anyway? Please help!!

The motor runs more efficient at a certian temperature. The thermostat is to allow it to run at that optimum temp. There are two temp range Tstats. One is like a 110 degree and the other is 135. Can you post your model number so someone can find the correct tstat for your motor?
