completely confused and frustrated

i have what i am told is a 1989 force 85..model 858F9E..black in color, with force logos..<br />no spark..<br />went to buy a manual, the picture is of a white, chrysler looking thing...and none of the pics look like my motor...parts on mine look like merc parts...but the book for the merc of the same year doesnt look like mine either..nor do the pics...any ideas?? ( other than buy a newer motor?)

The powerhead is basically the same as the Chrysler. The ignition system should be as well, but it may have been upgraded to the Mercury ignition system. Certain old parts are unavailable making a complete ignition upgrade necessary in certain circumstances.

Go to mercruiserparts.com they have pictorial parts listings by model and serial number. See if you can identify your parts there.
