Welcome to iboats, devestator.
You will need the shop manual. I'm not quite sure of what HP this motor is, so i can't tell yuo which manual you need.

Motor is from 1973. 45 HP. As 12 footer mentioned get a manual. Clymer would be better for your application because the factory manual dosent give electrical diagrams. We are not allowed to post pictures of copyrighted material here.

Re: 459HD

thanks for the fast reply guys,

since im in the netherlands im not quite sure where i can get the wiring schematic's of this specific outboard motor...

to be more specific , the engine wiring is fine , the controller cables are disconnected from the main cable , since im sure the controls have a start interuptor or have to be short circuited in order to get a sparc from the plugs the engine does nothing (correct me if im wrong) every cable is present and wired inside the engine .. the control is disconnected ( starter key)
since i havn't purcased a battery yet , i could buy any manual in the world and still not know what is what ... esp when i do not know what a "clymer" is...

if someone can email me or post a message about connecting the controls to the engine or starting the engine without controls, or give me a link to purchase the manual from...

i doubt that connecting the controls to the engine is prohibited ?

thanks guys

Re: 459HD

Clymer is a service manual. Try going to www.chryslercrew.net to download a service manual. They have factory manuals you can download however they cost about 25 dollars. Email me at ralgoetz@comcast.net. I might have some pictures I can send to help. My 45 HP is from 1967 however the wiring should be similar.

Re: 459HD

YOu are going to want a 12 volt cranking battery that can deliver at least 400 cold cranking amps to make that starter run. The circuit breaker is like a fuse. It does not need power for it to work. You can test it with an ohm meter. It should read as a short or close to zero ohms.

Re: 459HD

Batteries here in the US are measured in CA (Cranking Amps) and CCA (cold cranking amps) I dont know how they are measured there. A typical cranking battery for an outboard will deliver up to 550 Cranking amps or 440 cold cranking amps. A bigger one will do 750 CA and about 650 CCA. If you car runs on a 12 volt battery try using jumper cables on that to crank the starter. 40 amps seems pretty weak to fire the starter and turn a motor with good compression.
