I have a 1998 75hp force. Recently lost top end RPMS. Seems to be skipping at about top end of 4000 Rpms. Used to do about 5200 RPMS. Removed and cleaned Carb. (Single Carb) checked compression on all cyls. All are above 120 psi. Idles fine. Changed plugs. Checked for spark on all cyls at idle. All good. Could I have a bad coil? Any Suggestions?

You might want to check the fuel line to carb, might be sucking a little air, or it could be the fuel pump diaphram

Hey mburney and welcome to iboats. The fuel pump is a cheap and easy place to start. NAPA sells the rebuild kit for 10 bucks part number 18-7806. Does this problem happen only on a warm motor or does it do it when it is cold too? What color is the stator on this motor. Red or Black?

4000 RPMS only at cold or warm condition. You must be thinking a coil breakdown. The more I think about it, the more I believe it is a fuel delivery problem. Don't know color of stator. Whats the difference in red or black? I will try changing fuel filter first then pump rebuild if that don't work. Thanks

Black stators on force motors had problems when motor warmed up. These were replaced by red stators. Just curious if yours is red or not.

Might be as simple as not having vent open enough in fuel tank, or the fuel line is collapsing.

Re: Force 1998 75HP Help

I have a 1998 Fisher Avenger 16 with a 75 hp Force. I just bought it in July. I am really enjoying it but it seemes to drink the gas and while driving it wants to lean to one side. I bought a fin for it but it almost seems the gas mileage has gotten worse. It does stay more upright but still leans some. Can anyone advise me. It also has a 10" prop, should I go to a 12" prop?

mburney,

It does sound like a fuel problem. As mention before it will not hurt to check this first.

Good luck. I?ll be interested to here how you get on.

You will need to start a new topic even though you?re asking about the same motor. It gets a bit confusing otherwise.

I have the same motor as you & can give you some help regarding the prop as I have just gone through the process myself.

Cheers
Dean
