1988 force 50 ignition switch pin out

Greetings fellow enthusiasts, I'm new to the forum and have tried to search for this info to no avail.<br />We just aquired an 88' bayliner with a force 50 [507x8c] motor. The ignition switch wiring has been tampered with and we need the schematic for the correct wiring, I can see the kill switch wires, white and white, going to the same terminal, on the ignition switch, seems kinda moot ? heehe <br />thanks to all for direction<br />cheers

Terminals on back of switch should be labeled, m, i, m, s, c, b.<br /> <br />m-white (could be black/yelo stripe)<br />i- red/blue stripe (or purple)<br />m-blue (could be white ?)<br />s-yellow ( or yelo/red stripe)<br />c- green (or yelo/black stripe)<br />b-red (or red/purple stripe)<br /><br />Don't you just love it when they use multiple wiring systems?

thanks roscoe that seems about right.<br /> I'm not getting a spark from the plugs and I think it because the kill switch wires, (both white and connected to the normally closed side of the safety kill), are on the same terminal at the ignition switch. Shouldn't those wire make or break a path to ground for the magneto?

They should be connected to the two "M" teminals.<br />When the key is "off", the "m" terminals are connected, completing the circuit to ground.

thanks admiral roscoe but no cigar( no spark actually). Would you happen to have a schematic at your disposal? there are several questionable splices under the dash and I don't think the harness came from the factory like this! I found a site online but it would take several days to get the bloody disk in order to access the online database??? <br />thanks a bunch<br />aok64@yahoo.com

If you need something more specific, just ask.<br /><br />on motor .....connected to in harness....pin on ignition switch<br />yelo/blk ..... ......yellow............ ............. S<br />green.................green............ .............. C<br />red............ ........red................ ............. B<br />brown....... ........white...... .................... M<br />brown......... .....blue.......... ................... M<br />orange........ .....orange.......... to overheat buzzer..... red/blue... I<br /><br />Might be time to buy a repair manual.

Also running from the two M pins, there should be 2 wires going to the KILL switch.

Ahoy Admiral Roscoe, <br />Well, much to my shagrin, the answer was in the the back of one of the owners manuals regarding the correct wiring and we took her for a spin in Lake Apopka here in central Florida ( also known as lake green, heehe). Strangely enough thought there is one mystery wire, purple, that is coming from the rectifier, on the a.c. side, and is not shown in the factory book schematic, however, I did subscribe to Selcor online and one of thier diagrams shows this purple wire from the rectifier terminating on a terminal block and connecting to nothing??? aka dead end. I checked the charging voltage at the battery, while running, and it was about 14v +-. So all seems well anyway, I was so happy that I left the bloody purple wire, from the harness adjacent to the ignition switch, hanging as depicted in the Selcor drawing.... any thougths on that???<br />.....against me at every turn they were!!!!!

purple - should be signal wire for the tach.<br /><br />If you don't have a tach, put a wire nut on it and tape it securely in place.<br /><br />Glad you were able to get it going.<br /><br />Happy Boating.<br /><br />sheesh, you get to go boating, and I'm expecting 6" of snow tonight.

thanks again roscoe, <br />and I do apologize for going boating while you get to enjoy the comfy snowy weather... but look on the bright side. That was last Sunday, today is Tuesday and the back of my neck is still burning..LOL <br />and if that aint enough, we ran out of gas about 50 yards from the east shore with a strong westward wind, fortunately I had enough sense to tilt the tank and start her up again, although we had paddles on board I dont think we woulda made the shore.<br />anchors away : )
