I'd appreciate any assistance with the problem I just encountered. The starter turns but will not engage with I believe is the flywheel. After multiple attempts it would work but other wise the starter gear turns and turns as you turn the key but will not engage to actually start the engine.Note ths boat/motor has been sitting a long while. And once it did engae and turn over it ran just fine. Welcome Nick!

Do a couple things.

Check all your connections from the battery to the engine. All must be clean and tight.

Make sure the battery is fully charged.

Put a few drops of WD-40 or other good penetrating oil around the starter bendix shaft a with your fingers, run the starter gear up and down.

See if the starter will engage to start the engine.
Let us know how you fair from this much.

Also get your battery load tested. You probably need a minimum of around 400 CCA for that motor. You should be using a cranking battery and not a deep cell. Should also be a marine battery and not a car battery.

Re: Force 90HP Starting Problem

I have had this very same problem with my 50 hp Force. For what ever reason the bendix takes every bit of grime and cloggs up the bendix. OBJ hit it on the head with his instructions about how to rectify this problem. I look at it multiple times a year to clean and lube mine. Good luck!
