First off, haven't had any trouble in a while, been fishing a lot! Good to be back!(kind of, lol)

I was out on the lake the other night, and at half throttle or more, I get an electrical arc coming from somewhere near the engine shroud to the tiller bracket that (Where the steering connects).
When this happens, my lights go dim and flicker in sync with the arcing, and if I stay at half throttle or higher, it will eventually pop the fuse that I have setup for my accessories. (I was only at half throttle, it was night time, but I revved it really quick to see if the problem worsened or went away..it stayed the same).

Now, help me pinpoint my problem. I recently re-wired all the lights, bilge pump, and horn on the boat. That is the only electrical accessories other then the factory tach and tilt gauge. Now, if it is popping the fuse connected to my lights and accessories, it has to be in that circuit, correct?

What would be a good way to check this? If I remember correctly, it still sparked even after the fuse was popped, which made me think it was coming from elsewhere.

Is it possible that my engine needs a ground of some sort? I am not an electrical guru, by any means, so please help me out here.

If there is a specific person on the board who is good with electrical issues, please refer me to him (because he/she may be in a different forum)

Thanks!
Shawn

For what it's worth, the engine doesn't seem to lose a lot of power when it arcs, you can hear it in the engine's rythm, but it doesn't slow it down a lot. Although, it is obviously audible.

Shawn

ShawnQ,I would check to see if tou have a chaffed power wire in that area. It may be rubbing metal and shorting.
