I have a 2005 glastron with a 150 merc and the steering on the boat is out of alignment. When i am driving the boat, in order to keep it strait the wheel is turned almost exactly a 1/2 of a turn to the right. When i put the wheel in its original position(as if i driving strait) the boat turns to the left. It there any way i can fix this myself? It's very annoying and my boat currently is in my garage and the dealer i bought the boat from is four hours away up near my cabin, so taking it there is not a possibility atleast for another few weeks. thanks.

Does the motor turn Both ways Equally,.???.....

The Easiest Fix,........ Is to replace the Steering Wheel with 1 that Doesn't Have a Top,+ Bottom............
Like the SSteel Destroyer Wheels,..... They're the Same All the way Around.......

It doesn't affect the steering in any way that i can detect, its just annoying. Here is a pic of the steering wheel. this is when the engine is almost strait. The wheel turns even more to the right so that the "arm" (for lack of a better word) on the lower right side of the steering wheel is vertical. That is how you have to hold it in order to go strait... :(
Re: steering out of alignment?? help

Is it rack and pinion or rotary steering. Rack and pinion is usually relatively easy to realign. On my Teleflex rack and pinion I set the steering to where the motor was straight (wheel out of alignment). Remove the four bolts that hold the pinion gear against the rack and lower the pinion gear assembly a little. Set the steering wheel straight and reattach the four bolts. I'd also use a threadlock on the four bolts as removing and attaching any steering fasteners should be done with utmost care. Rotary can be aligned as well but I don't know the exact procedure. Sometimes the steering wheel will come off relatively easy. They have a key that secures alignment on the shaft. Some wheels have three keyways so the wheel can be positioned in 120 degree increments. Again use care reattaching the wheel and fastener.

b-4 you go to the expense of ripping into your steering, check the anode on the lower unit of your notor. If it isn't eroded away or can still be adjusted, sometimes you'll find this can be the culprit.

it was like that before i had an anode installed. I had the anode on the cavitation plate installed because of the torque steer i had on heavy acceleration.
