How do I get rid of clover in my lawn?

My lawn is looking pretty good this year, except there is quite a bit of clover. Anybody know what I should do to get rid of it?

The old fashioneed way.I am not a big fan of lawn herbicides .Regular mowing will inhibit the growth of the clover as the season progresses.It's just that time of year.

I'm sorry, but mowing isn't going to get rid of clover. It's mowed quite frequently, and there has been quite a bit of clover there for years...

Then you'll either need to pull it or go the herbicide route.Not lots of options. You could also contact your local counties agricultural extension agent and apprise him of what type of sod you have in your lawn and he can send you some literature that covers year round maintenance.Good luck.

You apply may be able to use some Weed B Gone on it. I beleive that gets most broadleaf weeds. The good thing about that is that you can apply it only to the affected areas. Other than a topical treatment, get your regular grass to crowd it out.

Invite a bunch of kids over and tell them to pull the clover. Tell them that you will give them a quarter for each four leaf clover they bring in. Your clover will be gone.

Assuming you have a bluegrass or fescue lawn: Apply a liquid herbicide containing Trimec or equivilant ( 2,4,D + MCCP + Dicamba). Add a surfactant (soap) to the spray to reduce surface tension of the droplets. Clover and black medic (most people mistake black medic for clover) have a waxy type coating on the leaflets that cause the droplets to ball up and reduce wetted area. Granular herbicides are not very effective. Timing of application and rain are big problems. You can buy Trimec by the gallon cheap at TSC. Apply with an Ortho Sprayette. APPLY AT THE RECOMMENDED RATES TO AVOID BURNING DESIRABLE TURFGRASSES.

I use a good weed and feed so it is a gradual reduction.The clover MUST be damp or wet and you cant water or be expecting rain for a few days after applying.The weed part of weed and feed must stick to the clover to work.Use a drop spreader .Do this very early in the morning so there is dew on the clover and no wind.Charlie

Bomar is on the right track. I have the honor of killing weeds as well as bugs, and what he says will work. To add to it, make sure the lawn is dry, and do not water it for a few days. Do not aply if it will rain. We don't bother with weed jobs until after the spring rains have gone, otherwise you end up with erratic results. Round-up will get rid of the clover too, but it will also get rid of the grass and anything else growing. You should call a pro and get a quote. Often times a homeowner will spend more time and money messing with it than if they just called a pro. I do weed n feeds for an average of $75, and stand behind my work. Retreats, though very rare, happen, and they are free. Good luck....
