It's the carborater(sp) that is located on the top of the engine under the air filter housing. Holley is the manuf./type I believe. It has 4 (ports/jets/barrels) It's where the fuel and air are mixed and fed to the engine. I hope this helps ya cause I'm not the greasyist monkey around. I got a late start.

Atually its a bit of a miss conception to think that just because you go to a four barrel that you are automatically going to get less fuel mileage. Actually most times it gets better, that is if you can keep your foot out of it which is sometimes hard to do when you first put it on because you will like hearing the sound it makes when it opens up. The reason you most likely would get better mileage is because the primary side of the four barrel is usually smaller (CFM) than the original two barrel, thus at cruising speed you are using less fuel. Ive experienced this before.

LD<br />Thats true, you can get better mileage with a four barrel. And more pull when you need/want it!

Ditto to Lubedude and rwise. Depending on your engine's ability to utilize the additional fuel/air supplied by a 4bbl carburator it give you a more infinite range of power/economy choices in the operation of your boat/auto.

yup 4 bbl Holley under air cleaner assy.(what yr, model vehichle?) And also yup on fuel economy, keep your foot outta throttle and 2 mains are fine, put your foot into it and secondarys HELP boost power but rob mpg. If you have choice, get a 4 bbl Holley wih vacuum secondaries, better mpg. I had a 600 that worked great on small block(289) Ford.

I always found Holley's easier to work on, too. I particularly liked being able to set the fuel bowl level from the outside with the carb in place. Performance was good also.
