Owners manual on my 94 Bronco with a 351w calls for 5w-30 oil but as I use this to pull 6000lbs in the summer heat I am thinking of going to something like a 10w-40. any feelings on this?

Re: Summer oil...

At the next change you might go to a 10W-30, but I really see no reason to go to a 40W. If you are concerned, use a synthetic, I am currently using Mobil1 10W-30 in my Ford Ranger and really like it. I changed it over at 140,000 Miles and had no leakage problems. Even towing you can easily go 5,000 miles with the Mobil1, but the first change after the change over I would change at 3,000 due to the cleaning effect of the synthetic, then go with a 5W-30 Mobil1 in the winter. You should be using a synthetic in the winter where you live anyway, You wont beleive the easier starting.

The 5-30 will be fine, regardless of temp.

The "old" rules no longer apply top todays lubricants.
