If you'll post the Model and code numbers, I'll give ya the TEC. P/N for the breather assembly...I'd also check the service bulletins if it would help ya out..

Re: Small Engine Guru's

I pulled the engine off the tiller this past weekend since I have the new one on the way. I took the engine apart with the intention of a rebuild and when i knocked the piston out of the cylinder what do yall suppose I found? Not 2 but all 3 pistion ring end gaps were lined up. I understand that piston rings move around the piston as the engine runs, but what are the chances that the ring end gaps all three lined up just before I broke it down? I've got a rebuild kit ordered for it and will put it back together when it gets here.

Re: Small Engine Guru's

Ok Yall, I"m at my wits end. I reassembled this engine this weekend. COmplete with new, rings, valves, seals, gaskets the whole 9 yards. It cranked on the 2nd pull and ran fine. I watched the crankcase breather tube and it poofed a little smoke which is what its suppose to do. I ran it at varying RPMs until it warmed up and then let it idle for a while. while I was sitting there watching it all of a sudden it started puking oil out the breather vent.

I've no idea what could be wrong. (I've done everything the books says and checked everything the book says.what could be up with this?

bearings [crank]marks were lined up otherwise the oil pukes out and doesn't lube the cam
Breather drain hole plugged
To much oil in crankcase
breather gasket leaking
rings not seated yet
reed plate assembly breather
My bet is your oil scraper ring isn't setted yet

If the timing marks on the crank and cam weren't lined up it wouldn't right if at all. The engine runs fine. The only problem is its blowing the oil out out the block breather. I"m going to replace the little breather box. Its the reed style. Its bout the only internal that hasn't been replaced.

It's the reed type that's probably it the reed assembly, It was the marks on the con rod and crank bearing I was speaking of not to be confussed with timming ,The HH60 model makes it a 6 hp some were crossreferenced with craftsman parts also
